It felt so great to be back and in the swing of things with the kids! We accomplished a lot and wrapped up a few things as well. We are working hard on setting personal goals and sticking to them. Students are asked to reflect daily on their goal and if they think they have accomplished it. As a group, we are working hard on transitioning quietly and quickly to our next activity.
In math, we have wrapped up our first multiplication unit. We will be starting our next multiplication unit this week. More flashcards will be added to flashcard bags. By the end of this unit we will have all facts 1 - 10. Please remember to have your child practice facts daily. This can be done using an app (there are lots of good free ones!), playing multiplication war, or simply flipping through flashcards. Whatever is motivating to your student works great! We have completed our first reading unit, Building a Reading Life, and have started our Mystery unit. We had a fun scavenger hunt to end our last unit and lead us into this one. During this new unit, students will be doing lots of tracking in their books. They are going to be working on tracking suspects and motives as well as make predictions. This will be a fun unit! We are in the publishing process with our narrative writing. Students are working hard to fix up their stories and make them perfect. We will celebrate our stories at the end of the week with a special treat and share time. This week is our first Family Book Club! The third grade teachers are so excited to celebrate this reading with you! Our Book Club will take place at 6:30 in the school library. Come ready to enjoy treats, discuss, and create stuff from the book! Last week I sat down with the class and discussed how I love taking time to teach their hearts as well as their minds. We spoke about some different options that we could do as a way to use our big hearts to do good. The final vote was for a pie making party where students can make a pie to deliver to someone who could use that warm, home-baked smell in their home. I will look at the calendar and put together a plan to email out soon. Halloween I am trying to figure out just how it is possible that Halloween is next week. October has been a blur. We are asking that your child come dressed in their costume to school on Halloween morning. This will make it easy for us to get lined up and head out to our parade to the Laurel's in the morning. Students will be taking off the bulky portions of their costumes after the parade. Our party will happen from 2:40 - 3:30 on Halloween. I will be sending home treat information this week. I believe I have some blank spaces that still need to be filled so I will include those as well. If you plan to attend, please be sure that you have filled out the background check form! You will not be let in without a background check on file! There will be a check in process that the office will be following. Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe! Football Game I want to remind you that we get to attend the football game this coming Friday for free! I sent an email out earlier with some of the details about the game and where to meet. I will resend that email later this week as that day approaches. We are really looking forward to cheering on Brian and all of our Eagles! Dates: October 24th - Family Book Club @ 6:30 October 31st - Parade 9:05, Party 2:40 November 15 - Early Release |
