Thank you for taking the time to come in and talk with me about your child's success. I am very proud of the progress that we have made so far, and can't wait to see where we go. Please let me know if you walked away with any additional questions that I have not answered. I look forward to partnering with you the rest of the year! The picture from this week comes from a social studies activity we did involving wants and needs. Students had to narrow down a list of 30 items to just 4 items that they would bring along with them if they were headed to a new planet. This was a really fun activity and brought up lots of great discussion! Curriculum & Information: Math - We are continuing our work on multiplication and division. We have begun learning about square numbers, and will continue to explore these this week. We will also be talking about how to multiply by multiples of 10. Reading - We will continue our mystery unit this week. Students have had so much fun collecting clues and acting as detectives as the read their mysteries. We will be sharpening up our predicting and summarizing skills this week. Writing - We are working on writing our persuasive essays. Students will be drafting their body paragraphs this week and working on using their thesis as a guide. Social Studies - We will be continuing to work on economics. We will discuss opportunity cost and scarcity. Reminders: Tuesday - Parent Club meeting @ 9am PE - Wednesday Friday - Library. Please send in books! What a fun filled week we had! Thank you so much for the Halloween party donations. Our treats were just the cutest and they tasted equally as yummy! Our Pie Event turned out great! Thank you for taking the time to come and prepare materials so that this whole thing could happen. One of my very favorite things is seeing kids' big hearts in action. Listening to them as they planned who needed that pie, and the giggles as they mixed up their apples just filled me up. What an incredible bunch of kids. They will move mountains some day! Please remember to send me the pie delivery pic if you were able to snap one! We will celebrate their big hearts in class. If you were unable to make it, that's ok! We will have plenty of student service opportunities coming up. :) This week is conference week. Report cards will be coming home in backpacks on Monday. If you are unsure what time your conference is, please contact me! I look forward to celebrating your child's success with you! Curriculum Update: Math: We are continuing our work with multiplication and division. This week we will focus on word problems and square numbers (it is crazy what 3rd graders do now!). Reading: We are well into our mystery unit now. Students are working hard on doing the mind work that goes along with reading. Many kiddos are reading "above" the expected grade level when it comes to fluency and accuracy, we are working on making our thinking match that level as well. Students are working on evaluating their own thinking so that they are able to set accurate reading goals as well. Writing: Students are working on picking a topic for their persuasive essay. We have brainstormed many wonderful ideas already. We will be focusing on developing a thesis and using boxes and bullets to help organized our writing. Social Studies: We are working on our economics unit now. Our focus is currently on goods & services, consumers & producers, and wants vs. needs. Upcoming Dates: Conferences - Tuesday & Thursday Book Fair - Tuesday & Thursday during conferences Parent Club Meeting - Tuesday, November 13th 9am Questions:
