This week I wanted to start by issuing a big THANK YOU to all of you. We knocked it out of the park this year with our Holiday Hope project. We were able to purchase a few toys, clothing items, pajamas, and stockings for each child as well as items for the parents. I know this will be a Christmas they will never forget! Thank you so much for the wrapping supplies and helping hands. We made quick work out of a big project! I am so proud of the kids and all that they have done. I love seeing the compassion in each of them. Their hearts are just so big. You should all be so proud! (Pictures at the bottom of this post!)
Our first Family Book Club will be taking place on Tuesday from 6:00 - 7:00. If you have read Hoot (or are making your way through the book), please feel free to join us! We will be meeting in the library to celebrate the excellent reading that took place. If you are willing to bring in a treat, please send me an email! I know there has been a lot of requests for donations lately, I'm sorry it all seems to pile up! This week we have our Party on Thursday. We will be celebrating by watching the Polar Express and eating some goodies. Due to our theme, we will be wearing pjs on Thursday! On Friday, we will be having a pretty "normal" day. We will be enjoying a few Elf games at the end of our day just to be sure we are all ready for Christmas! We will be wearing our best elf gear on Friday. REMINDERS: Tuesday - Gym Tuesday - Family Book Club 6-7pm in the library! Thursday - Pj day! Polar Express watching party! Friday - dress like a Christmas Elf! Elf games :)

We had a wonderful week! Holiday Hope shopping was a great success. We were able to provide our family of 5 with so much for Christmas! One of my favorite things about being a teacher is being able to see my students use their hearts. One student decided to ask her Elf on the Shelf for some money so that she could donate more to Holiday Hope. She was so proud and excited to turn that money in and it was so exciting to see her heart shine! I cannot wait to see all of their hearts in action on Friday as they wrap these gifts up for the family. Thank you so much for your donations of time, money, materials, and helping hands. This Christmas magic wouldn't be possible without your help! This week we worked on telling time. Students learned about the language involved in time as well as elapsed time. Next week we will practice elapsed time word problems. These can be very tricky! Below are some pictures of students practicing with their clocks. Genius Hour was also in full force this week! Students rocked it this week. We had many projects going on and many new ideas developing. I have loved watching their management of this time grow. Students are becoming more and more confident and comfortable with the freedom to explore. Students also spent some time reviewing our multiplication concepts by playing the Unlock the North pole game! It was so much fun to see their excitement and motivation to move from task to task! I wanted to take a moment to give a big THANK YOU for the book donations that came in this week. You should have seen their eyes as I revealed this giant stack of books! We took some time to browse and write down titles that interest us. They can't wait for these books to hit the shelves! If you ever have books that you are looking to get rid of, Park is a great place to donate. We are always looking for new books for our classrooms! Upcoming:
* We have our Christmas program on Tuesday, December 12th. Please review the note that came home. We will be meeting in the fellowship room of Fellowship church @ 7:15 * Our wrapping party will be taking place on Friday at 2:40. I need your helping hands! We have officially launched into December and the holiday craziness has begun! We have many wonderful things happening in just a few short weeks. I will go through what to expect over the busy weeks ahead. First up is our Holiday Hope project. I want to thank all of you for your help with donations and time to make this project happen. This weekend I spent some time planning out our shopping trip and it looks like we are going to be able to make some real Christmas magic this year! We even have plans for a special Christmas Eve box underway! Our shopping trip is planned for Tuesday, December 5th at 6:00. We will be meeting at Target in Grandville. I will be standing near the costumer service desk when you walk in. Please come and see me for your shopping assignment and information about checkout! We will be wrapping our gifts on Friday, the 15th of December. If you signed up to donate, you should have received an email from me this weekend! If you have extra rolls that you don't plan on using this season, we always love to have a big variety to pick from! We will be participating in the Elf Factory on Wednesday. Students will all be able to create something (there was a free project). They will bring home the items from their order completed and ready to wrap! Also in December is our long awaited Christmas concert. The students have been practicing like crazy and are sounding so good! Our concert is on December 12th at 7:30 and will be held at Fellowship Church. Students need to report to the Fellowship room (upstairs) at 7:15. If you have any questions about the concert please let me know. More information will be coming home from the music teacher shortly. Our Christmas party will be taking place on Thursday, December 21st. This party is going to be a movie and will be just teacher and students. The third grade students will be participating in winter themed activities throughout the day and then enjoying treats and the Polar Express. We will plan to wear pjs on this day as well. I will send out emails to those who signed up to donate to our party. Please take some time to look over these things and email me any questions that you may have! 3rd Grade CurriculumMath - We will be starting our new unit of measurement in math. Students will be starting with telling time and learning how to calculate elapsed time. This concept can be VERY tricky. Please take some time to practice this skill with them at home! This site is a fun place to practice.
