Thank you for coming to celebrate all of our amazing writing! That was some hard work getting all of that writing in with our lovely snow days that kept popping up! The students did a truly remarkable job.

We have been working so hard on getting caught up after all of our days off. With that being said, we are going to work very hard to get our writing done so that we can celebrate on Friday at 3:00. Please talk to your child about what they wrote about and plan a few props that they can use for our celebration. Props can be what they are wearing, a stuffed animal, a piece of sporting equipment, a picture, etc. Parents are invited to come and celebrate our writing with us on Friday at 3:00 - 3:30. We look forward to showing you the awesome writing that we have done!
Curriculum Update: Writing: We will be completing our final drafts in writing this week and will end with a celebration on Friday at 3:00. Math: We will be taking our Unit 3 test on measurement this week. We will be beginning our fractions unit mid week. Please look for opportunities to practice fractions. We will be learning about unit fractions, equivalent fractions, and plotting fractions on a number line. Reading: This week we will be beginning our character study unit. We will be investigating how our characters grow and change within the story. Social Studies: We will be studying the explorers of early Michigan and the impact that they had. Homework Note: Please remember that your child should be working on the same book at home and school. Remind them to bring their book back to school each day. Spelling tests will happen every Friday. Study the words and the spelling patterns throughout the week to prepare. Math homework is due on Fridays. Dates To Remember: Fridays - library PE - Wednesday March 4th - 8th - Change Wars March 19th & 21st - conferences M-STEP - April 30th & May 7th - Please be sure to be at school on these dates! I hope that you had a relaxing weekend and are ready for a full week this week! Since last week was so short, there is not a lot to update.
One thing that I want to point out is that we are working at a very fast pace right now to try and make up for loads of lost time. I am praying that we have seen all of our snow days already this winter, but I know it is only February. I want to thank you for taking the time to do some extra work on those snow days with your kids! It really paid off and I could see that reflected in how well the retained the information that we left off on. Our Valentine's Day party is this week on Thursday. My plan is that we will play a few minute to win it games, pass out our valentines, and eat some treats. So far I have 5 adults marked as attending our party. If you do plan to attend, please use this link and fill out the form. I have to turn in a list to Mrs.Lidgard. If you think you might be able to attend but are not sure, please fill it out just in case! Thanks for taking the time to do this. This week students will be coming home with a slip of paper with details about our upcoming writing celebration. Please help your child to brainstorm possible props (pictures, books, stuffed animals, sports equipment, etc.) that goes along with the informational writing that they have completed. Watch for more information on this. Ok, I will admit it, us teachers were excited for that ONE snow day on Friday...the first Friday. However, enough is enough! We promise to never flush ice cubes down the toilet again in hopes of a snow day! :)
I cannot even begin to tell you how ready I am to be back in the classroom with my 3rd graders. We have learning galore to do and then some thanks to our little snow-cation that took place. I wanted to share a few things with you. One is about Valentine's Day and the other is ways to extend student learning at home. Valentine's Day Our Valentine's Day party is quickly approaching. Our party will take place on February 14th from 2:15 - 3:15. Following the party, we will clean the room and read a book or watch a short video. You are welcome to take your child early or leave them with me following the party! Please use this attachment to RSVP to our party. Keep in mind that I have to turn in a list of all the people who plan to attend our party and all have to have a background check filled out. If you think you MIGHT come, put your name down just in case. I will send notes about treats home this week! How to Extend Learning At Home Over these last few snowy and cold days, I have really taken a close look at what resources we have at our fingertips whether we are in school or out. These are a few really great resources that can be used to extend learning at home. Please use these resources as they fit into your schedules to help support the learning that we are doing in class. Thank you for your continued support! Moby Max: This is an excellent resource that has ALL curriculum available. Students earn points and raffle tickets through Moby Max that are even good for real life prizes! Please use your clever badge- emailed to you to login like you do at school. Kid Blog: This is a resource that is new to the class, but one that I have used many years. This is a platform for students to blog about learning, do creative writing, share hopes & dreams, and connect with each other. They are able to comment on the blogs of their classmates as well. All comments and blogs are approved by me before they are live so that all content remains respectful and safe. We will have a blogger of the week each week that will be highlighted in class. This will be primarily used at home, though I hope to have time to blog at school as well. Steps to Login: 1. go to kidblog.org - click "login" 2. click on "class search" at the bottom of the login screen. 3. type in my email [email protected] 4. click on 2018-19 5.Click "login" again in the top right corner 6. select your name from the dropdown menu 7. type in password - goeagles 8. you will have to create a new password. please use your last name as the password (no capitals). 9. To make a post click on NEW POST in top right corner. Readworks.org One benefit of many snow days was lots of time to dig around resources I have used to find amazing features that can benefit the class. This resource I plan to use in class weekly and will have new assignments up regularly. This is very closely matched to the way the M-STEP looks and hits our standards very well. Extra assignments completed at home will be celebrated in school. How to access:1. Have students go to www.readworks.org/student 2. Students enter class code H3CYJU 3. default password is 1234 |
