I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It is hard to believe that we are already launching into December. We have a lot going on over the next few weeks!
We will be starting new units in reading, writing, and math. Please be sure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes each night. If you are participating in the family book club, the reading that you do in Hoot does count! Also, be sure to get that flashcard practice in every night. At this point in the year, students should be starting to feel comfortable with multiplication and division. If traditional fact practice with the flashcards is a struggle, feel free to use an app or a game. However you can get that practice in is great! Curriculum Update: Writing: On Tuesday, we will be celebrating the personal essays that we wrote. Students worked very hard to develop a thesis and topic sentences. They tried very hard to stay focused in each paragraph. Our next unit will be informational writing. This unit will be taught along with our living things unit of science. Students will be focused on animals for this portion of writing. Math: We will be starting the week by reviewing and testing unit 2. We will be pretesting for our measurement unit next. Reading: We will be beginning our non-fiction unit in reading as well. We will start with looking at the text features and learning how to use them to enhance our comprehension.
