Last week was a blast! On Tuesday, we had our first Girls' Group meeting. It was so much fun to work on bracelets and chat with the girls. So much fun, that I forgot to take pictures! I spent a lot of time trying to create a bracelet using a kit that claimed to be appropriate for a 6 year old (it was so tricky!).
Thursday was our second Guys' Group meeting. A few of the boys opted out of the meeting and decided to go out instead. Those that stayed had a blast taking apart different items and seeing the inner workings. A phone and blender were among the favorites! Friday was our Detective Day that the students earned from their hard math work. We started off by solving a few mysteries ourselves. Next, we worked on identifying our classmates' footprints. A few students even brought in magnifying glasses to assist in their detective work. We ended with a fantastic game of identifying the winking suspect! It was a day filled with laughter and fun. Exactly what they needed and deserved! Our editing is in full force and we are in the final stages of publishing our writing. It has been so cool to publish using Google Docs. We will be celebrating our writing on Wednesday at 9:40am. We have Mrs.Earhardt, coming as a guest of honor. Her wonderful story telling has inspired this class so greatly and this is the perfect time to thank her. I believe she even has a very special story to share with our class! Parents are welcome to attend this celebration as well. We will be done by 10:40! SNAP math facts are now complete! I will continue to test students' fact fluency throughout the remainder of the year. Please be sure to have your child study their facts (multiplication and division) frequently. These facts are essential for fourth grade! We are also done with weekly spelling lists. We will be continuing to work on our grammar and specific spelling patterns in class, but we are done with the individual lists. I have decided to stop these two things in order to free us up for other types of homework. Please be sure to watch the agenda for new assignments! Math: This week we will be working on area and perimeter. We will be starting with area and looking at tiled areas. Later in the week we will be decomposing rectangles. Science: Students did awesome on our light test! Everyone scored a 3! This week we will begin to talk about sound. We will be focusing on how sound is made and how it travels through different objects. Grammar: We will be continuing our work on possessive apostrophes this week! Writing: We will be completely wrapping up our realistic fiction unit this week. Writing celebration will be on Wednesday at 9:40 - 10:40am Reading: We will continue to work on responding to our reading citing evidence from our text.
