There is nothing quite like the first week of school! I love all the sun kissed faces, perfect pink erasers, fresh hair cuts, and the butterflies in the bellies! We had a wonderful first week together. We spent time learning about each other, doing team building games, reading books, and learning the ropes of third grade. It is clear that this is going to be one fantastic year!
This coming week I will be working on collecting some initial data to help drive our instruction this year. Students will be taking the STAR test which will help me in forming groups for math and make individual plans for reading. I will also be out for most of the day on Thursday and Friday doing reading assessments on each student. On both Thursday and Friday I will be starting the kids off in the morning and back in the classroom for the last hour of the day. One of our parapros will be subbing for the rest of the time. This week we will be starting our reading logs. Students will be coming home each night with a baggie containing their book, log, and sticky notes. As homework, I ask that the kids read at least 20 minutes each night. They will record their stop page on the bottom half of the calendar square. You do not need to sign this calendar, just encourage them to write on it! Please be sure to get the baggie back in their backpack so that they can read the same book at home and at school. :) I know this can be tricky! Questions to ask your child: * What was your favorite activity from the first week of school? * What did you write your personal narrative about? * What does the S in SOAR stand for? Reminders: Thursday - GYM September 20th - Early Release October 4th - Color the Park
