Pioneer Day & Writing CelebrationTwo weeks ago we had our fort building writing celebration to celebrate our informational writing unit. Students had an opportunity to build forts (thank you Duct Tape!), eat yummy treats, and read different stories. They really had a blast with this and did such a nice job. I was very impressed by these published pieces! Pioneer day was so much fun! Students came in and were given a feather pen (our modern version). They joined me in the Dugout where they were introduced to the pioneer rules. When they learned what was expected of pioneer children, they were speechless! We lined back up and entered the room as pioneer children did, in a boy line and girl line. They sat based on their gender and stood anytime they were talking to the teacher. We practiced cursive with our "feather" pens to start our instruction. Students had a chance to play Oregon Trail, make butter, eat a corn muffin, and create a plan for what they would bring with them on a trip West. It was such a fun day! Take a moment to check out the photos below. Weekly UpdateWe are still in need of donations for the carnival! If you are able to donate an item to our basket, the theme is Rainy Day. Cookie mix, movies, popcorn, games, and art supplies are a few great ideas! We are also still collecting pop and baked goods (baked goods turned in on Friday). Thank you for your support with the carnival. Also, check out our awesome ABC fish! My kids gave it a try and they loved the game! This item will be in our auction at the carnival! Math: This week we continue on with Unit 5. We will be using our detective skills to solve multi-step word problems using all four operations.
Science: This week we will be beginning our light and sound unit! This is a fun unit that involves many experiments. Grammar: Since we are working on realistic fiction writing, understanding how to use quotation marks is so important. This will be our focus for the week. Writing: This week we will be looking back at our story mountains and working on developing our characters through detail. Reading: We will be continuing our biography unit this week. We will be working hard on understanding how different people influenced the lives of the people we study. Reminders: No School Monday (records day) Parent Club Meeting - Tuesday 9am Conferences Tuesday - Thursday Saturday - Park Carnival 11-2
