Thank you for your contributions on Valentine's Day. The students had a great time opening their notes and eating treats. I have uploaded a few pictures from the party for you to check out.
This week is pretty packed! I have my running record day on Tuesday (I will be in the school, but not in the classroom) and will be testing all of the kids in reading. Mrs.Pieotrowski will be in our classroom running our normal schedule. On Thursday, I will be attending the 4th meeting of the Michigan Math Educators conference. I have Mrs.Coeling lined up to be our substitute and the students always seem to enjoy her. She will run a normal schedule that day as well. Thank you for you patience as I attend these conferences. I know it is a lot of days, but it has been transformative to our math time! On Friday, we have our Writing Zoo. The kids have poured their hard work out over the last two months to create these great informational pieces. I am really looking forward to you hearing some of the amazing writing that they have done. Our celebration will take place on Friday at 2:45 and you are invited to attend! Students have been working together to try and find a stuffed animal for each kid that matches the animal they researched. I will remind the students of what they planned to bring and I will attach the list to an email as well. Thank you for your help in getting a stuffed animal for each child to borrow! I am also still collecting animal themed treats for our writing celebration. Even a cupcake with a teddy graham stuck on top works great! Let me know if you are willing to send a treat in to help us to celebrate. Curriculum Update: Math - We are working on finding area and perimeter. We are also working on finding the missing side length when given either the area or the perimeter. A trick that I use for finding the missing side when given the perimeter, is a three step process. Step 1: Add up the two known sides, Step2: Subtract that number from the perimeter, Step 3: Divide the remaining number by 2. I encourage students to work through these steps when given the perimeter and one side. Writing - We are starting our second personal narrative unit. This unit students will be focusing more on details, dialogue, and adding inner thought to develop their story. Reading - This is our last week of compare and contrast with text. We are comparing the story Nya-Nuki (historical fiction) to the Orphan Train (historical). Specifically, we are focused on comparing the journeys of our two main characters. Social Studies - We are moving into our pioneer portion of history. Reminders: * Gym - Wed * Writing celebration - Friday @ 2:45
