Book ClubWe had another successful book club last week! It was so much fun to celebrate reading with all of you. Right now I am picking the next book and I am trying to decide between Flora & Ulysses by Katie DiCamillo, Holes by Louis Sachar, or Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Please take a moment to click on each of these book titles to learn a little bit more. Submit your vote in your child's agenda by Wednesday! All of these books are more challenging and will need to be read with an adult! Due to the length of these books and the holidays coming up, we will hold this next meeting in February. I will let you know the date shortly! Holiday HopeOur Holiday Hope project is up and rolling! We will be shopping this coming Saturday, the 13th, at 10:00. Please meet me at the Target in Grandville. I will be waiting right inside the doors to give you your shopping list, and directions. We will shop for around 30 minutes. Remember, if you are not able to attend the shopping trip but still wish to donate, send your money into school and I can purchase the item for you. Our wrapping party is set to take place on Wednesday, December 17th at 2:30. Please watch for a form to come home with details and an opportunity to sign up to help. I am so appreciative of all of the support that has been provided with this project! VIP Christmas CafeThis week a note will come home with your donation item. I am still in need of a few volunteers to help with setting up, dishing out, and tearing down. Please let me know if this is something that you are interested in! Also, be sure to lock in your child's VIP for Thursday, December 19th 2:10 - 3:40. Curriculum UpdateMath: This week we will be continuing our work with elapsed time. We will be talking about finding time that has passed, start time, and end time.
Social Studies: We will be studying holidays around the world this week through next week. Students will be going on "trips" to different locations and learning about traditions that take place there. We will compare and contrast our traditions as we go. Writing: This week we will begin our personal essays. Students will be developing a thesis statement and organizing into boxes and bullets this week. Poetry: We will be learning about poetry this week as well. I will be using lyrics from some Trans Siberian Orchestra songs (I was inspired by my front row seat at tonight's concert!) to work on inferring skills. We will then work on creating our own beautiful poetry as we talk about figurative language. Reading: We will be working on series books this week. We will be focusing on our predicting and inferring skills as we read, but will be introduced to many different series as we go. Reminders:
